About

Pipe Dream is an international band featuring four of the most interesting personalities in the new italian creative scene and american cellist Hank Roberts.

Over his nearly four-decade career, Hank Roberts has forged a compelling original voice on the cello, encompassing abstract improvisation and soulful folk melodies, intricate new-music compositions and vigorous rock songs. Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, Roberts made his name on the legendary Downtown scene in 1980s New York. Faced with a dearth of mentors or peers on his instrument, he carved his own path through that fertile ground alongside such frequent collaborators as Bill Frisell, Tim Berne, Marc Ribot and John Zorn.

The five musicians stretch among chamber music, african echoes, new music and american folk-rock, shaped in their own unique sound as a band.

Their first eponymus album ‘Pipe Dream’ will be released on September 7th, 2018 for Cam Jazz. Pre-order here or through the form at the bottom.

Press Quotes

A surprising incisiveness and compactness, a genuinely exciting sincerity (…) A small miracle made possible by the evident consonance between similar spirits, between convergent sensitivities (…) Overwhelming ovation for the true revelation of the festival.
Luca Canini , Il Giornale della Musica - Jazz & Wine of Peace Festival 2017

Original and personal atmospheres, even if they are appealing to many musical areas: from the most avant-garde jazz, which contributes to the complexity of sound structures and mixes, to contemporary music, author of some more sublimated moments, up to American folk and blues ( …) A concert that has put on showcase a perfectly cohesive formation, made up of excellent soloists ready to exchange the front line, where next to the “American friend” took space now the trombone of an increasingly convincing Filippo Vignato, now a usual enthusiastic Pasquale Mirra, now a Giorgio Pacorig who alternated piano and Fender Rhodes, now the same Zeno De Rossi with fine and subtle soloist drums.
